Notes of the Fretboard

Lets take a look at fretboard of the guitar and learn the notes that are on it. First, you will notice that there are six strings on the guitar. Starting with the top string (The thickest string) and going down, the strings are: E,A,D,G,B,E. Or, Eat All Day Get Big Easy.
The metal vertical strips on the neck are known as the frets. A note is played by pressing your finger in the position between the frets and striking the string with a guitar pick.
Now, lets learn the notes. First, position your guitar neck like this:
Here is a map of the fretboard with the notes labeled.
E||-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|
B||-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|
G||---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|
D||---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|
A||---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|
E||-F-|---|-G-|---|-A-|---|-B-|-C-|---|-D-|---|-E-|-F-|---|-G-|
III      V      VII      IX         XII          XV
The labeled notes in the above diagram are known as Natural notes. The unlabeled notes are known as sharps(#) and/or flats(b). For example, the note on the E string between the F and G note is known as either an F sharp (F#) or a G flat (Gb). A sharp indicates the Natural notes pitch is raised a semi-tone, a flat note is the natural pitch lowered a semi-tone.
As you can see, the guitar has 12 notes: A, A#, B, C, C#, D, D#, E, F, F#, G, G#
(Notice that there is no B# (aka Cb) nor is there an E# (or Fb). This is a universal rule in music.)
You will notice that there are many places on the guitar neck to play an A note. Some of these are the same pitch and sound exactly alike. Others may sound different. They are still A notes, but in a different pitch. See the Octaves lessons for a more in depth explanation.
Also note that on your guitar neck, you probably see round dots on the guitar neck which mark the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th, 15th, 17th frets and so on. These are used as a guide when playing, so you do not need to count frets all the time.
This is your guitar neck and its notes. Get to know it, and try to memorize where the notes are located. This will help you greatly in your guitar playing.

Nightmare

NIGHTMARE!
Now your nightmare comes to life.

Dragged you down below

Down to the devils show
To be his guest forever
Peace of mind is less than never

Hate to twist your mind

But God ain't on your side
An old acquaintance severed
Burn the world your last endeavor

Flesh is burning

You can smell it in the air
Cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal (steal)

So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head

You're now a slave until the end of time here

Nothing stops the madness turning, haunting, yearning pull the trigger

You should have known

The price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here
Yeah
Oooooooh
It's your fucking nightmare

While your nightmare comes to life

Can't wake up in sweat

Cause it ain't over yet
Still dancing with your demons
Victim of your own creation

Beyond the will to fight

Where all that's wrong is right
Where hate don't need a reason
Loathing self-assassination

You've been lied to

Just to rape you of your sight
And now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel (feel)

So sedated as they medicate your brain

And while you slowly go insane they tell ya
"Given with the best intentions, help you with your complications"

You should have known

The price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here
Yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate
Is looking so clear
Yeah
Oooooooh
It's your fucking nightmare
HA! HA! HA! HA!

(Break)

(Maniacal laughter)

Fight (Fight! ). not to fail (fail! )
Not to fall (fall! )
Or you'll end up like the others

Die (Die! ), die again (die! )

Drenched in sin (sin! )
With no respect for another
OH!

Down(Down! ), feel the fire(fire! )

Feel the hate(hate! )
Your pain is what we desire

Lost (Lost! ), hit the wall (wall! )

Watch you crawl (crawl! )
Such a replaceable liar

And I know you hear their voices

(Calling from above)
And I know they may seem real
(These signals of love)
But our life's made up of choices
(Some without appeal)
They took for granted your soul
And it's ours now to steal

As your nightmare comes to life

You should have known

The price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here
Yeah
No one to call
Everybody to fear
Your tragic fate
Is looking so clear
Yeah
Oooooooh
It's your fucking nightmare

Finger Picking: 5 Tips for Mastering Fingerpicking on your Guitar

Hello, I'm Alan Dragon, lets learn and exchanges knowledge. When playing the guitar, finger picking add a lot of variety to your guitar playing. It enables you to create a sound that you simply cannot get with a flat pick. Learning to play finger picking patterns on your guitar properly is a great skill to have.

It can be difficult learning to finger pick; especially in the beginning. Most people play with too much tension especially if they are self taught. Here are 5 tips to help you get started of right with learning to play in a finger picking style on your guitar.

Tip Number One: Keeping Your Right Hand Relaxed

Your right hand is the one that controls the string plucking which ultimately creates the music. However, more focus is often placed on the left hand when you start to learn the guitar. This is because the left hand is in charge of fretting the strings to create the notes. It is just as important to focus on your right hand as it is with your left. Both hands should be relaxed. Play with a relaxed follow-through motion

Tip Number Two: Keeping the Nails Short

Another handy tip that will help with fingerpicking is to keep your nails on the short side.. Some professionals recommend that you use 400-600 G sandpaper to polish the ends of your nails. If your fingernails are quite long you will notice that they will tend to get caught in the strings. This makes the playing sound jerky. It will also make playing the guitar quite difficult as well as frustrating! Shorter nails glide off the strings much easier.

Tip Number Three: Practice at a Slow and Accurate Tempo

When you are learning the fingerpicking techniques, it is important to do it as slowly and accurately as you can. There is no rush and learning at a slow pace will really help you to master the techique.

It is recommended that before you even start to fingerpick the guitar, that you practice smooth chord changes. That way you will notice much more of a difference when you do start fingerpicking.

Tip Number Four: Use a Metronome

If you find that you struggle to keep your rhythm even, a metronome can help. The metronome is designed to help you practice your timing. It clicks on each beat to help you stay in good rhythm. The great thing about the metronome is that it can be adjusted to go slower or faster as you learn.

Tip Number Five: Don't Give Up!

Potentially the most important tip of all is to never give up. Learning to play the guitar at the best of times can be frustrating. Fingerpicking is a skill that will help you to enhance your guitar playing experience and it will take time to learn. Just go at your own pace and follow the above tips to help you to progress. If you continue to learn at a relaxed pace you will soon start to see the benefits! You can watch videos like 6 Finger Picking Patterns. There are also courses like How To Master Fingerpicking that can help you.

FINGER PICKIN' ... PATTERNS & STYLES

Finger picking provides a refreshing change from strumming with a flat-pick. It can create a lilting, graceful backdrop ... or a sharp, percussive, rhythmic counterpart ... and almost anything in between. It all depends on the pattern and the style or attack you give it.

It's important that you are proficient at "Playing In Time" before learning any finger picking patterns ... or ... you should learn these patterns with a drummer, bassist, or drum machine. The trick is to play at a true and consistent tempo ... repeating the pattern over and over -- mechanically ... relentlessly ... evenly and steadily -- while you change chords.

The patterns I use most, can be executed using only the thumb and index finger, or they may be performed with a flatpick for a more aggressive attack. There are many styles of finger picking, some as complicated as using all 5 fingers of the right hand ... some that use painstakingly cared-for fingernails ... and some that apply steel, plastic, or synthetic finger picks that slip over the ends of your fingers. If you're serious about this, I suggest you dig around Guitar Notes for a more elaborate tutorial. I'm not into it that heavily ... I just like applying arpeggio rhythms once in a while, and I've never found a pattern I wanted to play that I couldn't pull off using just two fingers ... or, when necessary, a flat-pick.

The process is a simple one to describe. As you know by now, the strings are numbered: "6 . 5 . 4 . 3 . 2 . 1" -- "6" representing the heaviest string, and "1" representing the thinnest. The picking patterns will be described using the numbers that relate to the strings being played ... and in their proper sequence. You'll get the idea as soon as you try my first, and simplest, pattern.

Gotcher guitar ready? Cool. Check this one out:

THE 4 . 2 . 3 . 1 PATTERN

This is one of the simplest patterns I know. If you're using your thumb ("T") and index finger ("F"), the attack is T-F-T-F ... if you use a flat-pick, the attack is down-up-down-up. You play the 4th string (T/down) ... then the 2nd string (F/up) ... then the 3rd string (T/down) ... then the 1st string (F/up) ... plucking downward with your thumb, and pulling upward with your index finger.

You can hear me go into this pattern (using my Open G Tuning) during the verses, on my interpretation of Bob Dylan's "It's Alright Ma, I'm Only Bleeding:" ... (if you don't have a RealAudio G2 Player, you can get one [HERE] for free) ... The guitar opens up with a blues riff ... then, when I begin singing the verse, I flatpick the 4.2.3.1 pattern ... and, back into the blues riff when the verse ends. It works nicely! The arpeggio provides a strong contrast from the blues riff, and a suitable, memorable space for the verses to sit in. With faster tempos, like this one, this pattern is bright and aggressive ... use it with a slower tempo, and it's as graceful and full of the sky as any.

PER 4/4 MEASURE: 4 . 2 . 3 . 1 . 4 . 2 . 3 . 1

THE 5 . 4 . 3 . 2 - 1 . 2 . 3 . 4 PATTERN

This is one of my favorite patterns. If you're using your thumb ("T") and index finger ("F"), the attack is T-T-T-T -- F-F-F-F ... pretty simple. If you use a flat-pick (I usually don't with this one), the attack is down-down-down-down -- up-up-up-up. You play the 5th, 4th, 3rd, and 2nd strings (T/down) ... then the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th strings (F/up). I think it's especially wonderful when you're playing 6th-chords ... or 9ths ... or minor-7ths ... and it has a mesmerizing effect - like a ticking clock, it holds your subconscious attention. It's a very soothing pattern.

PER 4/4 MEASURE: 5 . 4 . 3 . 2 . 1 . 2 . 3 . 4

The right hand picking fingers in the illustration below are indicated by t=thumb; i=index finger; m=middle finger. Remember to keep the tip of your pinky anchored on the pick guard (or that area of the guitar where the pick guard would be) if that is most comfortable for you.
The line above the tab will give you some indication of the rhythm (R):
q=quarter note (1 beat); e=eight note (half beat):
R|-q---e--q--e---q-------q---e--q--e---q---|

1|-0(m)------0(m)------|-0(m)------0(m)----|

2|--------0(i)---------|--------0(i)-------|

4|---------------------|-------------------|

5|---------------------|-------------------|

6|-0(t)----------------|-0(t)--------------|
Listen to the midi file to get the rhythm.  Click here.
If you're still having trouble with the rhythm, think of it like this: One full measure (the area between the vertical lines) consists of four beats, or eight half beats. A measure can be counted like this:
one and two and three and four and
Each number plus the and equals a full beat (quarter note). Each number or the and equals a half beat (eighth note). Any note will fall anywhere on these numbers or the word and between them. Assuming you are counting evenly, the bold face words would be where the notes in the above diagram fall:
one and two and three and four and
Think Puff the Magic Dragon! Start slow, and then try to do it a little bit faster each time. Be patient. It really takes a lot of practice! And whatever you do, don't give up! Believe me, you'll get it!
If you're still wondering about how to time your picking, this is how it is most often played:
The first notes in each measure are quarter notes (one beat). The second is an eighth (half beat). The third is a quarter note, the fourth is an eighth note, and the last is a quarter. If you were clapping and counting, it would look like this, where X is the clap (or the notes):
X.......X...X.........X...X.......

one and two and three and four and
TRY A SONG
There are thousands of songs that use the picking pattern shown above. Try the following, which would make a great accompaniment to Puff the Magic Dragon, and thousands of other songs that use the same chord structure. Each measure uses one complete measure of the picking pattern noted above. Each slash (/) below equals one beat. With the chord, each measure equals four beats. If you are unfamiliar with the chords, here they are. Your guitar should be in standard tuning for this one. (eadgbe). I'll show you how to do it in an alternate tuning at a later date. Maybe you can figure it out and we can compare ideas!

|G///|Bm///|C///|G///|C///|G/Em/|A7///|D///|G///|Bm///|C///|G///|C///|G/Em/|A7/D7/|G///|
IMPORTANT NOTE: In the finger picking pattern above, the indication for the sixth string represents the root tone of whatever chord you are playing (G for a G chord, C for a C chord, etc.) But you will notice in some of the chords illustrated above (the D Major, A Seventh, C Major, and B Minor, for example,) the root tone does not occur on the sixth string. In the case of the D Major, it occurs on the fourth string; with the A Seventh, it's on the fifth string; with the C Major it's on the fifth string; and with the B Minor it's on the fifth string. So, when using the picking pattern above, let the chord determine the string your right-hand thumb will play. For example, the basic pattern for a D Major chord would be as follows:
R|-q---e--q--e---q-------q---e--q--e---q---|

1|-0(m)------0(m)------|-0(m)------0(m)----|

2|--------0(i)---------|--------0(i)-------|

Do you get the idea? I'm pretty sure you do! But if you don't, e-mail me and ask. I'll be happy to answer your questions!

MORE FINGER PICKING PATTERNS

Here's another finger picking pattern that I think you'll like. This one is adaptable to many songs. Each note gets an equal amount of time. Try it slow, and then gradually bring it up to speed. The following tab is on a D major, chord, but try this on any chord. Just make sure that your first note and your fifth note are the root of the chord your are playing. For example, here they are D, because this is a D major chord. If you were playing a G major chord, they would be G. If your were playing a C major chord, they would be C, etc.
1|--------2(M)--------------------2(M)------------------|

2|--------------------3(I)--------------------3(I)------|

3|--------------2(T)--------------------2(T)------------|

4|--0(T)--------------------0(T)------------------------|

5|------------------------------------------------------|

6|------------------------------------------------------|
Here's the same pattern in C major, just so you see what I mean:
1|--------0(M)--------------------0(M)--------------|

2|--------------------1(I)--------------------1(I)--|

3|--------------0(T)--------------------0(T)--------|

4|--------------------------------------------------|

5|--3(T)--------------------3(T)--------------------|

6|--------------------------------------------------|

FINGER PICKS OR NAILS

Lot's of people use finger picks and love them. Me, I prefer to use my fingers and nails. The acoustic guitar is such a natural instrument that I feel the natural sound of your flesh and nail compliments it perfectly. Grow your nails until they're a bit above the pads of your fingers. Some people like to file their nails so they're angled slightly up to the right. Others just keep them shaped to a nice arc. In any case, use both the fleshy part of your finger and the nail to achieve a beautiful and expressive sound. Of course, some people can't grow their nails. They break easily or bend too easily because they are too soft. Then, by all means, use finger picks. Even if you're nails are prone to breaking, if you can grow them just a little, try the Alaska picks. They act pretty much like natural nails, and can be shaped and filed. And remember, there are guitarists who use nothing but the flesh of their finger pads to play and still sound great. Finger pads? Finger pads plus nails? Finger picks? It's up to you. Do whatever works for you. Remember, guitar playing isn't about rules, it's about fun and making beautiful music. Do whatever it takes to make it work for you. It's your music!

FUN

I hope you've had fun with this. I love finger picking! More picking patterns to come soon! And more tunings. If you're liking this, let me know by e-mailing me. I'd love to hear from you! And happy finger picking!

Guitar picking

Guitar picking is plucking or strumming the strings on a guitar. Picking can be done with one’s fingers, a guitar pick, or both. Picking with one’s fingers is known as finger picking, and with a guitar pick is known simply as picking. Picking with fingers and a pick is known as hybrid picking; however, because this uses a pick it is considered a sub-style of picking. Each style has pros and cons, as well as ways to overcome the cons. There are many different styles of finger picking, but only one variation to picking (hybrid picking).

Pros and cons for picking and finger picking

The pros of each guitar picking style are indirectly correlated to the cons of the other.
Pros of finger picking
  • It’s possible to play multiple non-adjacent strings at one time
  • Having a pick isn’t necessary
  • Playing with five fingers is like having five picks playing at once, which can enable playing more than one melody and/or bass line and/or chord
Pros of picking
  • Involves less multi-tasking which makes it easier to do; requires less practice
  • Picking back and forth with a pick is much easier:
    • A finger bends, while a pick stays straight
    • A finger is soft while a guitar pick is hard, which is beneficial because if the string is touched with any minuscule part of the pick the string will make a sound; however, if a player touches the string with a finger it will be muffled unless done just right and with a larger portion of the finger than would be required from a pick.

Overcoming the cons of finger picking

A guitar player could overcome the con of not being able to move back and forth on a single string by using more than one finger on one string. With five fingers this could be more effective than using a pick. Playing 5 harmonies or 2 harmonies and three bass lines, etc., are also possible advancements, though it would take a lot of practice to be able to do this. To overcome the difficult multitasking of finger picking, a player simply needs to practice more.

The only way to overcome the cons of picking is to use a pick and fingers, which is known as hybrid picking. This would enable a guitarist to play more than one string at a time that aren’t adjacent and a bass line with a harmony, or two harmonies, etc. However, knowledge of finger picking is necessary to do this, and since two fingers are used to hold the pick, only four strings can be played as opposed to the five possible with finger picking.

    Styles of finger picking

  • Fingerstyle classical guitar
    • Plays two melodies
  • Travis picking
    • Plucks a different string with a different finger in a certain pattern
  • American primitive guitar
  • "New Age" fingerstyle:
    • Plucks a bass line and plays arpeggios
  • Slack-key guitar

_ • Plucks an alternating bass line while playing a melody on the higher strings
_ • Uses alternative tunings
  • Fingerstyle jazz guitar
    • A mixture of any of the other finger picking styles. Some fingerstyle jazz is played with chords and a melody, with a bass line and chordal melodies, etc. Jazz guitar is characterized by the selective notes that are played and how they are played, but the actual technique of the finger picking is a culmination and mixture of all other styles of finger picking, often within a single song.

Alternate picking

Alternate picking is a picking movement going down/up/down/up and so on. This picking motion is normally more efficient then down strokes or up strokes, because of the economy of movement required to it the strings. When mastered correctly, alternate picking can be the player base foundation of speedpicking. Almoust every player known altenate picks, some of the most proficient ones in this technique are: John Petrucci, Michael Angelo, Rusty Cooley...

Directional picking

For ascending scales going higher in pitch, first do a down stroke, then upstroke, then downstroke, then repeat the downstroke when you go to the next higher string in pitch. This is similar to string sweeping, except the player will be executing scales. When going from higher pitched strings to lower pitched strings, upstroke, downstroke, upstroke, next lower string, upstroke, downstroke, upstroke. By repeating this pattern, excess motion is minimized. Additionally, this picking posture lessens tension in the hand and arm, giving more fluidity for scales.

Chiken Picking

Chiken Picking or Hybrid Picking is misture of pick picking and finger picking. Normally the player holds the pick with thumb and index finger, picking the string, and utilizing the middle and ring finger to finger pick adjacent strings.

Schecter Synyster Custom: A Guitar Fit for A (Dark) King

The Schecter Synyster Custom--the very same signature axe as seen on stage and in the studio with Avenged Sevenfold, a band responsible for bringing shredding guitar solos back onto mainstream radio--is ready for a new generation of rockers. Guitar World Magazine even placed the fleet-fingered Synyster in the Top 50 Fastest Guitarists of All Time, citing such influences of Django Reinhardt and Dimebag Darrell, and now you can get the same Synyster Custom he uses to record and perform your favorite A7X hits.

Looks that Kill on the Schecter Synyster Custom

The Schecter Synyster Custom is a well-sharpened axe with enough cutting tone to please even the most demanding shredsman. Featuring a set Mahogany neck with a familiar Fender-esque 25 1/2-inch scale length carefully set into a Mahogany body, the Synyster Custom's neck at once feels comfortable and fast. The fun doesn't stop there because, true to form, Mr. Gates tricked the 24-fret Rosewood fretboard out with binding (black on the black model, white on the white model) and super custom, super cool inlays. Even the headstock on the Schecter Synyster Custom gets the A7X treatment, thanks to a demonic skull wearing a top hat inlay, a Synyster truss rod cover, and hardware color-matching Grover tuners for the perfect combination of tuning stability and devilish good looks. You strap the Schecter Synyster Custom on and there's no mistaking that you mean business, and business is good.

If you haven't "picked up" on it by now, every little feature on the Schecter Synyster Custom has been given the Custom treatment, and the pickups are no exception. You'll find a pair of Seymour Duncan SH8 Invader Humbuckers in the bridge and neck position, but instead of the usual matte black pole pieces, the Schecter Synyster Custom has been given pole pieces to match the hardware of the guitar - either gold or polished chrome, depending on the model. These powerful ceramic pickups are perfect for brandishing the hard-edged style of rock and metal that A7X have built their career on, all controlled by a volume pot, tone pot, and 3-way selector switch. Couple that with a Floyd Rose vibrato and locking nut system, and the Schecter Synyster Custom is capable of nuclear reactor dive bombs and the speediest of palm-muted chunk fests with nary a worry of tuning instability.

Schecter Synyster Custom: The Sunday Best

What would a signature custom model guitar be without a selection of signature, custom finishes? The Schecter Synyster Custom is available in two different finishes: Black with Silver Pimp Stripes and White with Gold Pimp Stripes. Pimp stripes, what are those? Have you ever seen someone just rock a 3-piece suit, maybe even with some sort of fancy hat? Chances are that suit had pimp stripes on it, and slinging the Schecter Synyster Custom really is as close as you're going to get to having a guitar make you feel like you're wearing said 3-piece suit. lalalalalala buang masa sahaja ini...

lol,
juga belajar guitar,,,
tapi abg gue tak bagi pegang guitar elektrik,
im back to basics where he told me to use the acoustic one, and keep the electric,,, damn
ya, I'm learning and begin to understand the reason for all of this,,,,
and I keep it for myself at the moment..

rumah abg gue dekat dngan panatai, hooray,,
hari2 pergi pantai, maen guitar pon tepi pantai,
ade monyet teman kan, tapi dye da kne ikat, walawei, hehehe
ade secebis disini, childish gitu,
wei alan, grow up la bongok
